PARK CITY PRIDE COMMITTEE MINUTES

 

APRIL 14, 2012

The meeting was called to order by Chairperson, Jan McGonigle with 21 members present.  The flag salute was led by Carol Flower and the invocation was given by Donna Jardine.

MINUTES:           Carol Flower

Dee Stuart made the motion to accept the minutes of March 10, 2012 as recorded, seconded by Betty Arzinger.  Motion carried.

TREASURER’S REPORT:  Len Warren

Len read the treasurer’s reports for the period ending March 31, 2012.  Discussion was held regarding bank fees being charged on our account.  Eric Henderson made a motion to change banks with no second being made.  Motion failed.  Donna Jardine made the motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented, seconded by Jane Warren.  Motion carried.

REFRESHMENTS:  Thanks you Jane and Janie for the wonderful breakfast!!  Delicious as always.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

BUILDING:          Ed Arzinger

Ed said that everything is in working order thanks to Darrell Wilcox.

PARK CITY ALIVE:             Len Warren

The program for this month will be “Stars Over Kansas” by Eric Moender.  The presentation for May will be Traditional Dances in Contemporary Kansas.  Dee Stuart made the motion to schedule Shakespeare in the park for the next two years, seconded by Jane Warren.  Motion carried.  Eric Henderson asked about the possibility of having child care with supervised activities.  He said that would increase our chances of getting younger adults that have children and would help us increase our attendance even more.  Good discussion was held and we will discuss this issue more in the future.  We could possibly get some help from the 4-H kids?  Jody will discuss with them at the May’s meeting and get back with us.  Dee said she will write an article for the May Post and Jane Warren will help if the 4-H can’t do the babysitting.

PARK CITY POST:              Len Warren

Dee will write an article to invite couples with children to Park City Alive and tell them that child care will be available.  Darrell will put an article in for Movies in the Park.  Len reminded everyone that we need to get our articles in to the Post or it will be full of filler articles by the Post staff.

COURTESY GIFTS & MEMORIALS:  Nothing this month

 

MEDIA/PUBLICITY/WEBSITE:      Len Warren

He is working on getting the website set up and it should be ready soon.  Darrell said to get information to him and he will get it on the Pride web page.

PRIDE POSEE

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY:            Janie Gee

FOL voted to request that they be considered for the city-wide garage sale sponsor in the future.  They are having a book sale currently and will have a book, craft, and bake sale on city-wide garage sale day on June 2.

EVENTS COMMITTEE:     Melvin Kerr

The Events Committee will be holding another Fishing Derby for Saturday, June 16, which is Father’s Day weekend.  The Convention & Tourism board will help fund it.  Watch for more information in the June Post and on the city web page.  Halloween in the Park with a hayrack ride is in the planning stages and any help that Pride would be willing to provide would be appreciated.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE:          Kathy Woodard

She attended the meeting at Foley Tractor.  Attendees were given a tour of the new facility.

CHISHOLM TRAIL ELEMENTARY:                                Dee Stuart

Dee reported that Tammy Alexander is being transferred to another school.  The new principal will be attending the June Pride Meeting. 

CHRIST LUTHERAN:         Donn Bischoff

Donn stated that Christ Lutheran’s charity for the next month would be Step Stone to benefit abused women.  He finally got a list of items needed for the immigrant families.  He will bring a list to the June meeting.

PC FLYERS 4-H:  Judy Taldo

The kids are working on various projects.  They will create a float for the 4th of July parade.

PROJECT REPORTS

CHISHOLM TRAIL CHARGE:          Dee Stuart

Thank you to the volunteers.  The race will be on July 28.  She met with John Leeker regarding the pancake feed.  He will do it for us and will give us all the money received.  He also donated $500 to help with expenses.  She met with Newton Medical Center regarding the health fair on race day.  They are happy to work with us.  She met with the Park Board regarding their being in charge of some community fun activities.  Curtis O’Rear volunteered to head up a horseshoe tournament.  She will contact Wichita Heights to see if they are interested in heading up a volleyball tournament.  Eric Henderson was able to design the race logo.  Thank you Eric!  She will need to use the Pride stage.  Dee will contact the Tai Chi group to see if they would put on some demonstrations.  She may ask the Methodist Church about putting on a Zumba class sometime during the day.  Wendy Reynolds, DDS is donating $500 to help with expenses for the race.  She will work on rain contingency plan.  The pancake feed will be in the park.  Kathy will talk to Joel Lemurno about the Thunder Hockey team bringing some members to put on a demonstration at the skating rink.

FOOD PANTRY: Jane Warren & Jan McGonigle

Thank you goes to Darrell for building skids to keep the food off the floor.  Ten families were served in March.  This is less than expected but we will give the new pantry time to grow.  We will see what April beings.

MOVIES IN THE PARK:    Darrell Wilcox

All the movies for this summer have been scheduled.  All but $210 has been donated to cover licensing fees.  He & Jane Warren will work on getting concession expense donations.  John Leeker will put the movies in his weekly advertisements which should increase our attendance a lot.  bringing their Bob McQuiston said he will talk to the 4-H kids to see if they would like to help with the concession stand again this year.  Discussion was held about passing out a sign-up sheet to Pride members to work at least one movie night.

OLD BUSINESS

GOOD APPLE AWARD:   Darrell Wilcox and Linda Holsey went to the meeting and accepted the award on Pride’s behalf.

NEW BUSINESS

CITY-WIDE GARAGE SALE:  A discussion was held and it was decided that we got the money last year, so we deferred to other groups such as the 4-H and FOL.

PRIDE DAY – JUNE 2, 2012

Jan read the schedule of activities for the day.  Janie and Len would be willing to attend.  More discussion at June meeting.

MISC.:   Len Warren

Len said he would like to sponsor a misting station at the Chisholm Trail Charge on July 28.  Thank you Len.

ADJOURNMENT:              The motion to adjourn was made by Jane Warren, seconded by Darrel Wilcox.  Motion carried.  Meeting adjourned at 10:35 A.M.
