COMMITTEE REPORTS

BUILDING:          Ed Arzinger

Although they have been reported at least twice, the broken light fixtures still haven’t been repaired.  It was discovered that our garbage disposer is broken.  Ed asked if Pride was going to pay for a new one or we wait for the City to do it.  Darrell and Ed said they could install a new one.  Len made the motion to purchase a new disposal for an amount not to exceed $250, seconded by Dee Stuart.  Motion carried.  The bill for the disposer will be sent to the City to see if they would be willing to reimburse us.

PARK CITY ALIVE:             Len Warren

Len said that he has booked the May 19 program, “Traditional Dances & Contemporary Kansas.  He said that Shakespeare in the Park will be scheduled as soon as the Shakespeare Company finalized it performance schedule.  There are some conflicts this year due to the change in the date for the Riverfest.  He said that the first five events have been paid for and that we are awaiting reimbursement from the Seniors.

PARK CITY POST:              Len Warren

Things are going well.  The Park City Newcomers Guide is in the finishing stages.  Dee Stuart read Pride’s add and it sounds wonderful.  She also wrote an article for the guide as will.  Len said that all articles for the February issue of the Post need to be in no later than the 17th.

MEDIA/PUBLICITY/WEBSITE:      Darrell Wilcox

Donn Bischoff has consistently kept information regarding Christ Lutheran Church outreach activities updated.  Thanks Donn!  Len said that Microsoft will no longer be supporting our website.  He and Darrell will check into a new site and any associated cost.  Eric Henderson said he owns a website and is willing to donate space.  Len & Darrell will get with Eric and more information will be reported at the March meeting.

COURTESY GIFTS & MEMORIALS:   Carol Copeland was not here today.

PRIDE POSSEE MEMBERS

CHISHOLM TRAIL ELEMENTARY:                  Tammy Alexander

Construction will be starting soon on the new cafeteria, gym, and safe room.  The new rooms will be handicapped accessible with a wheelchair lift.  Along with the new construction, there will be a drop off space for cars created in front of the school and additional public parking added.  The school will be holding a Martin Luther King program on Friday, February 17 at 3:15 PM.  The state assessment tests will start on March 2nd.  Wichita Heights will be coming to visit our school to inspire our students.  The Student Council may be creating articles for our website and the Park City Post soon.  Dee informed that due to spring break, which is from March 15 – 23, no breakfasts or lunches will be served to students that normally receive them.  It was determined that Pride would provide food for the students at an amount not to exceed $500.  Dee will determine the menus and get volunteers to prepare them.  Suggested menu for breakfast:  cereal, milk, and juice.  Lunch:  peanut butter sandwiches, milk or juice.  More information will be provided at the next meeting.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE:          Kathleen Woodard

Due to many other issues that she had to take care of, she was unable to attend last month’s meeting.  Len said that Alef’s Harley Davidson had joined the COC because their joining was tied to receiving funds from Convention & Tourism.  The next two meetings will be at the library, then at Murphy Tractor.  He said that the COC will be concentrating their efforts on getting more street lighting for 61st Street east of Broadway.

CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH:       Pastor Chad Langston

Christ Lutheran will be hosting a sweetheart dinner on February 12th and everyone is welcome to attend.  Beginning February 22, the church will be serving free meals every Wednesday at 6:15 PM.  He said that a donation will be taken on a date to be determined with the proceeds going to support Pride’s Food Pantry.

EVENTS COMMITTEE:     Jane Warren

It is unknown whether the committee will be hosting a community Easter Egg Hunt.  The reason for this is that the new Methodist Church hasn’t come forth as planned with their support.  The Valentine’s concert/dance is not happening.  There is nothing else to report as no plans have been confirmed as of this date.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY:            Janie Gee

The Friends has elected new officers.  Every month they will be having a themed book sale.  They will also sponsor Park City Alive events as well.  Darrell asked if the library was still going to have Pizza Hut nights.  Janie will talk to the manager and provide more information at the next meeting.   Len said that publicizing pizza nights on Facebook could be very successful.

PARK CITY FLYERS 4-H:   Bob McQuiston

Today is 4-H days.  At this event, each group will be doing skits, etc. that will be judged.  More at the March meeting.

FOOD PANTRY: Jan McGonigle

Next  Saturday, February 18th 1-3 PM, will be the first distribution for this year.  Steve Walters and his volunteers from Park City Nazarene Church will be packing the boxes on Wednesday, February 15th, at 7 PM.  Anyone interested in helping, please feel free to come help.  Please contact Steve at (620) 200-6017 for more information or to volunteer to work on Saturday.  Darrell passed out copies of the new pantry information booklet that will be given to all participants.  Dee passed out the new/revised sign in sheet for our records.  It will help us track participant’s vital statistics and family size.

OLD BUSINESS

REFRESHMENT LIST:        Jan McGonigle

Jan said that we still need someone to sign up for September to help Donna.  Dee Stuart & Tammy will work on October.  Kathleen volunteered to help Donna with September.  Thank you everyone!

STERLING WOODARD MEMORIAL:           Len Warren

Park Bench for Sterling has been delivered to the library and installed with identifying plaque.  He said that instead of a metal or plastic plaque, such as currently used on the benches ordered by the City, the dedication has been engraved into the actual bench.  Len invited us all to come over to the library to see it.  Thank you Len.

NEW BUSINESS

CHISHOLM TRAIL CHARGE:          Dee Stuart

She is on the hunt for a new vendor to work on the medallion for the race.  She said she will schedule a meeting of people interested in working on this project.  Len said they could have the meeting on Monday, February 13 at 6:30 PM.  Dee said she would contact the other volunteers and invited any Pride member that wants to help to please attend.

SWEEP IT UNDER THE RUG:         Carol Flower

Carol reported that we needed to schedule a cleanup day soon.  The cabinets, windows, stove, fridge, etc. need cleaned.  The room needs painted badly.  Other maintenance issues that Carol reported are:  rotted areas on the floors, weak spots in the middle of the building, etc.  She said that this building is our work center and we need to make a larger investment in cleaning and maintaining it.  The City doesn’t seem interested in doing this.  She said we need to get a good termite inspection and a home inspection done.  Eric Henderson said he knows someone that could do both and would find out a price and report at the March meeting.  More discussion was held and it was decided that we would have a work session immediately following the March 10th meeting.  An inventory will be taken of needed cleaning tools and supplies and they will be purchased prior to March 10th.

RECYCLE:              Dee Kelley

She said that she has large bags of aluminum cans in her garage that are ready for recycling.  She said that we need to find someone to take over for Sterling.  Dee Stuart said she also has bags of cans in her garage.  Carol Flower called Keith, who said he would take over for Sterling.  He will crush the cans, take them to the recycling center, and give the proceeds to Len to be deposited in our account.  He will also give the tabs to the school.  Please call Keith at 409-0471 when you have cans that you need picked up.  Thank you Keith!

MOVIES IN THE PARK:    Darrell Wilcox

Len has given him the catalog for available movies.  He has $300 contribution pending from Murphy Tractors.  American Fun Foods will also contribute products.  He has approximately $1,200 in commitments for movie rentals.  We need sound equipment.  Len has been providing his sound equipment.  We need to reimburse him for the  wear and tear.  He asked that we please consider renting it.  The first movie will be in May.  John Leeker wants to publicize the movies in his weekly flyers.  Discussion was held about large attendance at the movies.  Jane said it was hard to keep up with getting the refreshments out.  Should we charge?  Should we limit how much is given to each person?  Bring your suggestions to the March meeting.  Darrell asked us if we would talk to our councilmembers regarding filling in of the old road bed north of the tennis courts.  It was suggested that we go to the next Park Board meeting at City Hall on Monday, March 5 at 7 PM to discuss it with them.

CHICKEN NOODLE DINNER:         Dee Stuart

Dee said that the chicken noodle dinner that we put on last year was very successful, but a lot of work.  She thinks that we need to be able to advertise that the proceeds will go for specific projects so that attendees will be excited to be a part of the evening.  It will cost us more money out of our treasury this year because we probably won’t have Brenda Spruell, Leeker’s Deli Manager, to get most of the items for free this year.  We made a lot of money from the dinner because of her efforts with their vendors.  Some of the ideas suggested were to purchase books for the school library because it is sadly lacking in books that are current due to budget cuts.  Carol Flower suggested that maybe we could use some of the money to create a field trip fund so that every class at the school would have the opportunity to go on a field trip to the zoo, Exploration Place, the Wichita Children’s Theater, the circus, etc.  The fund would pay the admission and the price for renting a bus to take them.  Any member that has additional ideas, please bring them to the March meeting.  There are approximately 530 children enrolled this year.

Len suggested that we do a cost effective study for the dinner ingredients and other costs.  Dee will determine the cost per person for another chicken noodle dinner.  Jane will check into the price of ham and beans with cornbread as well.  Tammy said that the staff and PTO are on board to help.  The target date would be in April, so we will need to get crackin’.

OFF AGENDA ITEM:        Cecile Cox

Before State Pride made all the new changes to their rules and our decision to limit our participation in the evaluation process, we used to put together a project book annually that could be shared with others as needed.  She said that she and Donna Jardine would be willing to do an annual project book for us if project chairpersons would provide photos and other information to them.  Thank you ladies!

REFRESHMENTS AT MARCH 10 MEETING:  Len Warren & Linda Holsey

ADJOURNMENT:  Darrell Wilcox made the motion to adjourn at 11:30 AM, seconded by Jane Warren.  Motion carried.
