OLD BUSINESS
VOLUNTEER HOURS: Jan McGonigle
She thanked everyone that had reported volunteer hours for the month of June. She said she had 372 hours, however, members present today reported more hours served in June. Final total at next meeting. Please contact Jan via email or phone prior to the end of July to report your volunteer hours. They also can be entered on the board in the Pride building. Thank you everyone!
BLACK TOP NATIONALS: Dee Stuart
Dee said that the rider’s breakfast will be at 8 AM on Sunday and that approximately 50 riders participated last year. Discussion was held that it would not be cost effective for us to do it if only 50 riders showed up. More information next month. Dee will try to keep updated by John Goyette of the Convention & Tourism Board.
PARTNER IN PRIDE AWARD:- JOHN LEEKER
Len will approach John to see if he would be willing to appear to receive the award at a City Council meeting in August. This will be an event at which we should make an effort to attend in our blue Pride shirts to show our support for John and our presence in the community.
FOOD PANTRY: Jan McGonigle
She received a phone from Kris Lewis, who received a call from a person interested in the food pantry. No results so far. Jan has gone through the leftover canned goods and threw out all the outdated items. There are bagged cereals that we need to find a home for. Betty said that the Open Door Food Pantry would take it and distribute it to the needy. Discussion was held that maybe we could use it if we help feel children at Chisholm Trail when the summer free meal program ends. Jan will contact Tammy for an official end date and if our help will be needed. There will be at least one week that the program will be closed down and no meals available for the children that have been participating. More information later.
NEW BUSINESS
BASKET BINGO: Bonnie Simon
The suggested date for the Basket Bingo to be held at Chisholm Trail School is October 1 from 5:30 – 8:30 PM. She is researching the costs of purchasing bingo cards and the price so far is $13.50 for 100 cards. Bonnie said that the faculty & PTO will be taking care of the refreshments. She said that the children can help with the decorations. Dee suggested that we designate the first $2,500 of the proceeds to fund the after school tutoring program that was cut due to USD budget cuts. Bonnie said she will need a maximum of $500 working capital for supplies. Many volunteers will be needed to serve refreshments, sell cards, call numbers, make baskets, etc. She will need for all Pride members to commit to at least 1 basket to be given as prizes. Bonnie brought baskets to today’s meeting and members picked from them. If you have a large basket, please consider donating it for this project. She said that members would create theme baskets i.e.: game night, pet, movie night, garden, tool, etc. (let your imagination run wild). The ingredients should have an approximate value of $20 per basket. She has plenty of tissue paper and she will schedule a “wrap & bow” time prior to October 1st. Carol Flower made the motion that the first $2,500 in profits be used for the after school tutoring program difference and that we also designate a maximum of $500 to be used for operating expenses. Motion was seconded by Darrel Wilcox. Motion carried. Dee made the motion and Cecile Cox seconded that Pride fund the after school tutoring program no matter what. Motion carried. Dee said that Tammy will be able to line up the staff to work the program. Bonnie will bring back more information regarding costs at our next meeting. If the project makes more than $2,500, what else we can do to benefit the school. It was discussed that if we decide to make bingo a yearly project, we can look into purching hard cards.
LABOR DAY ACTIVITIES: Jan McGonigle
No meeting of the Labor Day committee has been held (Dee S., Linda, & Jan). It was agreed to scratch this project until next year.
SCHOOL “STUFF THE BUS”:
Carol Flower has agreed to chair this project again this year. She stated that due to her going to work on the bus with Kenny, we need to focus on another type of container to store the donation in. She said that someone needs to be with the donated bus from when it is delivered to when it is returned. She will not be available in the AM. Therefore, she suggested that we get a large car trailer, decorate it and use it instead. She will work on that. Cecile Cox said that she will go to the monthly meeting of the seniors, ask for donations that can be brought to the trailer or she will bring them. Carol will talk to Tammy regarding supply lists and a suggested date in early September. Carol said that members should be watching for all the really cheap deals on school supplies at Office Depot, Office Max, Walgreen’s, etc. We can also watch out for the clearance items at Wal-Mart and Walgreen’s. Jan mentioned that she was able to pick up sweatshirts on a Walgreen’s clearance rack for $1 each. Carol said to watch those ads, team up, and make fun out of it. It’s OK to buy the specials, put them in the car, and go back in to get more!!
CHRISTMAS BASKETS: Jan McGonigle
Now that the food pantry is closed, what do we do about the holiday baskets now? We need to think about it now. Discussion was held that we could go back to getting our family names from the PCPD and the school social worker. More discussion at the next meeting.
MISC.:
LIBRARY CLOSE TO OPENING:
Jan said that she & Len looked at True Value for prices a self-cleaning electric range ($375), range hood ($60), and microwave($75 - $100) to be installed in the new library. Len said that the refrigerator they are currently using is OK and can be moved to the new building. Our current location has no stove, etc. that can be moved. Bob Henderson would facilitate their delivery and installation. Dee asked if Pride wants to purchase these items. Kathy Woodard made the motion that we allocate a maximum of $1,000 for the purchase of appliances for the new library. Seconded by Dee Stuart. Donna Jardine stated that she wants it stipulated that a plaque be installed that the appliances were donated by Pride. Darrell Wilcox said that, if possible, a dishwasher be purchased as well, as long as we stay within the $1,000 we voted on. Motion carried.
Betty Arzinger suggested that we work towards having a community “shower” for items that will be needed to stock the new building.
